This week, after refreshing my memory on the basic stitches used in crochet, I decided to take on the project of making my own coasters. I have found a lot of really cool beginner-friendly projects on Hay Hay Crochet, a blog run by Heather, who devotes her time to creating innovative crochet patterns and uploads them for anyone to use, for free!!!
Although a lot of Heather’s projects caught my eye, I decided to start with a project that has a video tutorial, so I could follow along while Heather crocheted her own coasters. This is the video that I followed:
I found this project to be pretty difficult at the beginning. I had never crocheted in a circle before, and struggled with the concept of continuing to add rows to the same circle. My first attempt is shown below, and while it doesn’t look anything like the ones in the YouTube video, it’s not bad for a first try!

I decided to try again, and this time I went a lot slower, and didn’t watch TV while I crocheted. The first time I made one, I think one of the main problems was that I was trying to watch TV at the same time as I crocheted, and I kept on losing track of how many stitches I had made. This time went a lot better, and I made two coasters back to back. I really like how they turned out!

This was a great first project for me to take on, and I am really excited to make more of these daisy shaped coasters now that I have the hang of it. I’m going to make one in every colour!

My next project is also from Hay Hay Crochet, and it is a gingham tote bag. I went to Michaels and purchased some yarn to make this bag. I am really excited to get started!
