As I mentioned last week, I am tackling my next project, which is a gingham tote bag!
The above video is the tutorial I am following, but this pattern is taking me a bit longer than I thought it would. In order to create the gingham effect, I have to use 3 different colours of yarn. I picked up this yarn from Michaels, in the colours lavender, eggplant, and aran.

So far, I have completed the bottom portion of the bag, and the first two rows from the bottom. I started out crocheting really slowly in order to make sure I understand the pattern, but now that I’ve got the hang of it, I think I should make quicker progress over the next week. The pattern consists of mostly double crochet stitches, and every time I get to a new colour, I have to drop my current piece of yarn and pick up the yarn of the next colour.

Because I am using 3 yarns at once, it is a bit difficult to avoid getting it all tangled! Another obstacle I have learned about is my cat, Benji. At first, he was really interested in my yarn, so now I always hide it under a blanket while I crochet. However, he’s now all of a sudden become really interested in my crochet hook. Now I have to only crochet when Benji is sleeping, in order to avoid an attack on my crochet project as well as my hands.

Overall, I am really happy with how my bag is looking so far. I like the colours I picked, and I think it will turn out really nicely once I am finished! I always look forward to sitting down at the end of the day with a cup of tea, ready to crochet.
I am hoping that by next week I will have the tote bag done. Once this is done, I have a really fun project planned, so stay tuned for that!
