Free Inquiry – Crochet Sweater Vest Part 1

Free Inquiry – Crochet Sweater Vest Part 1

This week, I decided to start making my first piece of clothing: a sweater vest!

I knew I needed to find a pattern with a good tutorial, since it is my first article of clothing I am making, so I went back to the trusty Hay Hay Crochet website, and used her pattern for the Crochet Checkerboard Sweater Vest.

I am just using her written instructions, but her video tutorial is below:

Materials

This project calls for 2 colours of yarn. I got 2 skeins of each colour, and I am using the exact same colours as the one used in the original pattern. The yarn I am using is the Skein Tones yarn from Lion Brand, in the colours “almond,” and “cocoa.” The yarn feels really soft, and I think the vest will be very comfortable once I am done!

The pattern also calls for a 4.5mm crochet hook. I only have a 4.25mm and a 5.00mm, and I didn’t want to go out and buy another hook, so I just went with what I had and am using the 4.25mm one. Hopefully it still works out!

Progress

So far, I have completed the bottom half of the front piece of the vest. I am about to switch the colours, so that now the lighter brown is on top of the dark brown area, and vice-versa. Once I am done that, my next step is to just repeat the steps I have done, and create the back piece. Then, once I have the front and the back piece, I make the ribbing at the neck, sleeves, and bottom of the vest, and connect the two pieces together.

The pattern is really easy to follow, and I am enjoying making it! So far, the vest consists of just one type of stitch over and over again, so that makes it fairly easy for me to keep track of the stitches I am making.

I think the vest looks really great so far, and I am excited to finish it up! My progress so far is shown in the photo below:

If this goes well, I am hoping I can try to make a full on sweater next! Stay tuned for part 2. I’m not sure if I’ll have the vest finished by then, but I’m going to try! See you next week!
